“Aaradhivani has a very strong devotion to the beloved, the God” says Nameri. “I try to bring this raw emotion to my singing.” For the last 35 years Nameri seeks his devotion and worship to God through his ‘Vani’ (music).
Full of soul, Velabhai, a 58 year old folk music artist from Ghadhada village, Kachchh, is well known for his stirring recitals of mystic poetry of the ascetics who roamed the deserts of the region. He also specialises in the Bhajans of Kabir and Meerabai.
Geeta’s success is a rare occurrence in Kachchh folk music scene. It’s been a challenge to figure a career in folk music for Geeta. “It was very confusing at first. Women sing. But in confined premises of home or at the local get-togethers like marriage functions or in festivals. But very rarely as an artist on the stage.” says Geeta.
“I remember how difficult it used to be in 80’s and 90’s to coordinate a music program in villages. Particularly when musicians from other villages were to be invited.” Says Shankar remembering his early days as a folk music artist.
